MISSION:
Its a race, to build your base! Steal Construction Materials from
your enemy's base and secure them at the various 'Capture Pads' located
in your team's base. Different capture pads correspond to different
base constructions and upgrades, so be sure to think about where you
secure your Construction Materials. Capture Pads can be used multiple
times to upgrade constructions. Also, constructions can be 'synergized'
by completing combinations of other constructions. The first team to
complete 40 constructions / upgrades or have the most completed when
the timer runs out wins!
New Construction System:
I wanted to increase the potential number of constructions in order
to give players the opportunity to build specialized bases that can
truly compliment their strategies.
The basic idea behind Baserace was to make capture the flag matches
a little more interesting by combining it with the sweet 3-stage
construction system of Enemy Territory. The constructions up until this
point have functioned more or less the same as the bridge in Fueldump.
The only difference is that when each construction stage is complete
the crates disappear until another flag (a.k.a., the construction
materials) is captured. This is problematic because of the TOI limit.
For readers unfamiliar with mapping, most objectives in a map
function with an entity called trigger_objective_info or, TOI for
short. Most objectives that show up on the command map involve a TOI
entity. Some objectives require a TOI to function , others do not.
Unfortunately, each construction does require its own TOI, as does each
CTF flag location (a.k.a., each location of a box of construction
materials). There is a limit of 18 TOI entities per map, and each
construction can have a maximum of 3 stages. This is the limit that
comes with using the previous system.
[Baserace beta2 used 16 of the maximum 18 TOIs]
6 Allied Constructions (gate, wall1, wall2, ops, spawn, tower) + 2
Allied Construction Material Locations + 6 Axis Constructions (gate,
wall1, wall2, ops, spawn, tower) + 2 Axis Construction Materials = 16
TOI Entities.
With the new method, most base upgrades do not use the ET
construction system and therefore do not require a TOI entity. Instead,
upgrades to your team's base will construct themselves automatically
whenever a crate of construction materials is secured at a capture pad.
Just as though an engineer was working the boxes, a transparent effigy
of the construction will appear to warn other players to get the heck
out of the way; and after a few seconds the new addition to your base
will pop into existance. Constructions such as the new Outpost and
Rocketguns will require an engineer. These constructions can be damaged
and repaired just like any other construction in ET.
Without all the base constructions eating up the TOI count, a
number of new possibilities are available. Fore example there can be
many more crates of materials laying around to steal, making the game
play much faster. Materials can be captured in specific operations
buildings, allowing teams to really pump up their medics, soldiers, or
speed up there respawn. Finally, the new system is far, far simpler,
requiring fewer entities and less scripting than before.
Beta 3 Changes:
- The random terrain system has been 'reverted' to static trenches, very similar to those in beta1/beta1b.
- The construction system has been completely reworked to overcome some game limitations. Read More
- Rocketguns can now be damaged and repaired.
- Many new constructions and bonuses such as 'Wall Jump' and the Armory, an operations building for soldiers.
- Many new synergy bonuses encouraging the construction of specialized bases.
- Text pop-ups on all Capture Pads with info about their constructions.
